As we approach the scheduled completion of our renovated building, BRAC is popping up once again at another venue in our Bronx community. Rex Hall, located on E. 187th ST near Arthur Ave, is being envisioned as a new cultural hub for Bronx residents, according to The Belmont Society of Arts & Culture. The hall boasts 4,000 square feet of space and original period detailing, with newly painted copper ceiling and dramatic lighting from classic chandeliers.
Bronx River Art Center (BRAC) is pleased to announce our upcoming exhibition, "Work In Progress" (Part 1), a Pop-Up show of contemporary art by Bronx and NYC artists at the newly-transformed Rex Hall in the famed Arthur Avenue section of the Bronx. Our Opening Reception is this Friday, November 4th, 2016, from 6-8PM. Immediately after the reception, we will be presenting a performance and film screening by our exhibiting artist, Hyonok Kim.
The exhibition will run from October 28th through November 26th during which time we will also be hosting a series of Saturday Art Workshops for Youth & Adults. "Work in Progress" (Part 2) will commence immediately after (Part 1) closes and will run through December 31st, with a new group of artists as well as some artwork from (Part 1) evolving into new artworks for (Part 2).
BRAC's Pop-Up exhibition, "Work In Progress", is a unique opportunity for artists to activate the space while engaging with other artists and the community. The exhibition will invite the public to experience the creative process, to see artwork in development and to better understand artistic practices. Our aim is to inspire local residents, particularly Bronx youth, by connecting them to artists at work. On Saturday afternoons during the run of the exhibition, we will also be hosting community art workshops in the space.
