END-OF-YEAR Holiday Party & Closing of MAPnificent!

END-OF-YEAR Holiday Party & Closing of MAPnificent!

WITNESS SURPRISING CONCLUSION OF INTERACTIVE PERFORMANCE BY MARIE CHRISTINE KATZ
WHEN: Friday December 20, 6pm to 9pm
WHERE: 305 East 140th Street (off Alexander Avenue)

The Bronx River Art Center invites you to a special END-OF-YEAR HOLIDAY PARTY, a joyous celebration by all facets of our tightly-knit arts community.  Artists, teachers, students and our supporters and partners are all invited to join us on Friday December 20, 6-9pm to celebrate the accomplishments of the year and to look forward to the year ahead.

This will also be your last chance to view our current exhibit, MAPnificent! Artists Use Maps, featuring new works in a variety of media by a cross-section of established and emerging Bronx and New York-based artists, including Lynn Avadenka, Nicky Enright, Irina Danilova, Paul Fabozzi, Alaistair Noble, Ariane Littman, Mannahatta, Hand Drawn Map Association, Marie Christine Katz, Aga Ousseinov, Amy Pryor, Asya Reznikov, Yumi Roth, Paula Scher, Viviane Rombaldi Seppey, André Vida, and Bice C. Wilson. Curated by Yulia Tikhonova, the show explores how maps inform countless human interactions beyond just getting from point A to point B.

During our party artist Marie Christine Katz wraps up her performance piece, Knitting, I Need You, blending storytelling and large-scale knitting.  Watch as Katz, who, during the show’s run, solicited passers-by to contribute bits of their stories to a large-scale story tapestry, reverses the process… “unknitting” to retrace our steps and review where we’ve been, as we naturally do at year’s end.

Our closing night/end-of-year celebration also features around-the-globe spinning by Bronx DJ Lightbolt.

MAPnificent! Artists Use Maps also features a first glimpse at the continuation of Eric W. Sanderson’s remarkable web-based ecological mapping project that allows us to observe New York City’s ecology pre-development. To view some of the imagery under development for his upcoming Weilikia Bronx project. Sanderson is the senior conservation ecologist for the Wildlife Conservation Society.

This is one holiday party where you can really UNWIND!
